Nearly Wordless Wednesday

Our first day at the beach (with Ga) and our last day at the beach. Although he loved it from the first moment he saw it, it overwhelmed him (thus the hand flapping and splayed fingers). But by the end of the trip, he was almost completely comfortable. He still didn’t want to walk around barefoot or get into the cold water above his knees, but everything else was true love!

Been there. Done that. Haven’t been back.

    Good try, though!

See, this is why I’m so terrible at the wordless Wednesday thing. 🙂 I clearly don’t pick pictures that explain very well! I changed my words now to show that by the end of the trip, it was actually okay. He was fascinated by the ocean, although fearful of it. He wouldn’t swim or anything – just waded in to about his knees. But he loved the sand as long as he didn’t have to be barefoot in it! LOL!

It looks like Ga has a ponytail.

HAHAHA! It does look like that. I didn’t notice it before. She’ll be thrilled….NOT!

Oh yeah, I totally get this one. We spent 10 days visiting in-laws in Myrtle Beach in August and we tried to go to the beach with the Roc a handful of times…not fun. This year he was terrified of the waves and wouldn’t go near them. He didn’t like the sand-I had to carry him onto and off the beach (great leg workout-carrying 35 pounds over loose sand). On the last day we took him he sat down at the edge of the water and promptly got stung by a jelly fish….beach trip over for the Roc. We spent most of the trip at the pool.

What’s interesting is that he liked the beach the summer before but we didn’t know about the Autism then and when I look back at pictures he is stimming with the sand and doesn’t seem “there.” He is much more aware this year and has developed fears.

The waves scared C a little bit too – it didn’t help that the first day he rushed in to wade a bit quickly, turned around to run from an incoming wave and then got face planted by it! LOL! The ocean is a pretty scary thing, really. I can understand Roc’s awareness AND fear.

I think he looks like a snuggly little beach bum in the second picture. It’s just adorable. It makes me long for the beach. (We’re going to Mexico over Christmas break, so I won’t have to long for long!)

Honestly, once he got used to it, it became one of the few places he could just hang out for a long period of time without needing “entertainment.” So I’m definitely planning on getting him back there. And wow – I’ll bet Mexico will be a really nice trip for you guys – perfect getaway from your winter weather!

i cant wait till rachel and matthew see the beach for the first time…i bet it will be quite similar to your little man 🙂

It was fun – I’m kind of glad we waited as long as we did so that he could really appreciate and remember the trip. We definitely had a blast. 🙂

cute, cute, cute! He looks thrilled! Taking our little guy to the beach is so much fun! His stim is yelling (happily) as loud as he can while trying to beat the waves. Fearless, my boy! Scares the pants off me.

The beach looks awesome. Ahhh…makes me want to go!

    Hope you guys are well.

Hope you are well too. I know one of these days we’ll actually SEE you all in person, I just know it! LOL!

It was C’s first trip to the beach, so it was pretty exciting. It was definitely fun for me to watch him grow more and more comfortable with the sand and water over the days we were there. I’m psyched to finally be living within a short drive of a beach!

Oh man, this is just like Little Man when we vacay in Florida. He always starts out really resistant and moves toward comfort as the trip carries on. I’m glad C was able to enjoy it!

Yes, sometimes it does take awhile! It’s kind of fun to watch the progression, I have to admit – at least when it does in fact progress, which sometimes it doesn’t…
